Family Violence Experience and Sexual Violence among University Students: Mediating Effect of Aggression

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze whether there is a difference of sexual violence between sex, to examine whether family violence has effects on sexual violence, and to test whether aggression mediates family violence and sexual violence among university students. This study conducted a survey with quota sampling method targeting all the students at one university in Gyeongsangnamdo. The survey resulted in 500 university students for study sample. This study analyzed 480 respondents excluding graduate students. Among the respondents, female students responded higher rate of sexual violence victimization and male students responded higher rate of sexual violence perpetration. However, there were significant rates of perpetration among female students and victimization among male students. Hierarchical regression analyses tested mediating effect of aggression between family violence and sexual violence among university students. The analysis results show that aggression has a partial mediating role between family violence experience and sexual violence. Study implications were suggested based on the findings
